Essex League Cross Country Results

Round 4 Gloucester Park Basildon

Please see below the results from the Essex Cross country at Gloucester Park in Basildon on February 10th where 25 runners across senior and juniors representing Benfleet in the cold, wet and mud!

In the men’s we came 6th out of 12 teams in our division and 24 teams overall, and in veterans we were the 2nd team. There were 188 runners and 1st home for Benfleet was Lee Baynton in 23rd followed by Andy in 36 and Paul Ruffy in 43th.

This puts us joint 5th at the end of the season but only 4 points behind 3rd so all to target for next year, and a fantastic joint 3rd  in the vets.

In the women’s unfortunately we did not field a team of 4 so came 11th out of 12  in our division and 21 teams overall, and in veterans we were the 13th team from 21. There were 111 runners and 1st home for Benfleet , after an unfortunate fall from Charmaine Sterling,  was Nikki Leigh coming home in a 50th followed by Kelly McClenaghan in 56th and once again pushing her body to the limits 3rd for Benfleet was Annette in 72nd!    

This puts us 8th at the end of the season and 5th in the vets but only 3 points behind 3rd.

In the under 13 girls that Lucia de Cristofano had another consistent performance and her 2nd highest placing of the season in 27th followed by Leah Hampson Long in 40th . In the under 13 boys Benedict Heath was 1st home for BRC in 42nd  followed closely by Bailey Hartman in 46th competing in his first xc for the club.

Archie Conners had his 2nd highest placing of the season in the under 15 boys race in an impressive 16th.

Sinead Clark had her highest placing of the season in 3rd and also secured 2nd place in the individual standings for the under 20 women. Grace Goodall had an excellent run and her highest placing of the season in 5th  place followed by Genevieve in 15th.

This was the final cross country for the juniors of the season so congratulations to all those that ran.
