Race Report: 17.06.24

It was a busy weekend for Benfleet Running Club, with members showcasing their skills across a variety of challenging events.

On Saturday, the C2C Ultra Marathon, saw competitors battling through heavy rain and wind. The race covered a gruelling 50 miles, from Upminster to Southend. Our members showed extreme endurance and resilience in the face of challenging conditions. Sadly, Keith L had to withdraw from the race part way through the course.

Also on Saturday, the Studland SwimRun took place on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. This demanding event, features 12 stages of alternating swims and runs of varying distances. Graham B delivered an outstanding performance and was engaged in a fierce competition securing a hard-fought second place in the Solo Male category, showcasing his versatility and stamina. Graham swam a combined total of 4.9km and ran 20.2km and crossed the line in 2hrs 48mins!

There was also BRC action at the Stour Valley Marathon & Half Marathon, two scenic events on the Essex-Suffolk border. Lee B put in a stellar performance and crossed the line in 3rd place in a remarkable 3:38:29. Also in the Marathon event, Steve K marked a significant milestone, completing his 97th marathon with a time of 4:53:09. Meanwhile, in Half Marathon event, Jo and Barry Key had a gutsy run, adding to the event’s spirit of endurance and camaraderie.

Sunday played host to the Chelmsford High Easter 10k, a key fixture in the Essex Road Championships and a very nice road 10k. The event saw spirited performances from BRC members. Our athletes navigated the course with determination, contributing to a vibrant and competitive atmosphere.
