Essex 20 – Cancelled

From the organisers:

Firstly it was great to see everyone got the message and no-one turned up at the venue yesterday. An inspection of the course confirmed that, despite the “Big Thaw”, the race would still have had to be cancelled due to snow piled up on the sides of one of the country lanes making it single file traffic only and therefore dangerous.

The host club, Southend AC, have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to try and put the race on another suitable date. As many will appreciate the race calendar is very congested in March and the only possible weekend free without a major race clash would be next Sunday (11th).

However, roadworks that were planned last week have not yet been completed and we have now had confirmation they are only planning to do these on Friday. Any delay whatsoever would mean cancelling the race again at very late notice. This, together with the fact that it is Mothering Sunday, and getting sufficient volunteers at short notice is proving difficult, mean we cannot just take the chance.

Therefore the 2018 race will now not go ahead.

Entries will automatically roll forward to 2019. Please note there will be no refunds of entry fees as per the original entry conditions.

Thank you,
Essex AA
