So 2 weeks on from the heat of London Marathon our racers were once again forced to succumb to record temperatures over the bank holiday weekend, none more so than the man who has got many of us fit and ready for our own starting lines Roy Harwood!
Roy ran the Milton Keynes Marathon on Monday in temperatures of the high 20s for Alzheimer’s566r6 in memory of his grandparents and their voices of encouragement in his head managed to push him through the groulling race and over the line in 3.47.17 which although a long way short of his target is still more than impressive given the conditions and resulted in position 241 out of 2028 and 93 in his age category.
Also a Milton Keynes was Keith Luxon although he was running as a 4hour pacer.
Further afield Dan Carter in his 5th marathon in 4 weeks ran at Belfast in and impressive 3:08.03 and he is now looking forward to an easy weekend coming when he only has a half to contend with!
Tom Robinson competed in the Lichfield half marathon and finished in 1.53.36 making him 182nd out of 595 runners.
At the Witham 10 we had 7 BRC runners battling their own challenges in the heat and once again a fantastic performance by Lee Baynton who finished 4th out of 295 in under 1 hour at 59.29. Next was Brian Venton in 51st 1.16.14. Kiera Tippett was 1st Benfleet lady over the line in 58th and 1.17.53 beating Simon Tippett (66th) who came in next at 1.18.59! Andrew Watson(69) was next in 1.19.25 with Ann Reed and Sam Venton completing our runners crossing the line hand in hand in 1.42.26 in position 206 and 207!
Sarah Jane Grabbers represented us at the High Easter 10k in 46.12 and position 53 and an impressive 7th lady home.
Last but not least 10 of us supported the local church in Benfleet in the low key but no less challenging St Mary’s 10k challenge! No chip timing or medals but the following runners battled the limited directions and hills – Steve Churchyard (2nd) PB Steve (3rd) then not necessarily in order Barry Key, Steve Wise, Nikki Leigh, Jayne Stacey, Liane Connery, Terry Allen Stuart McMeekin, Ian Caldwell, Julie Peacock, Karen & Millie McMeekin, Debbie Burton and Marie Smith with her daughters.
