Stephen Melluish of Benfleet Running Club put closure on the ambition he has held for many years by completing the World Marathon Masters. The Masters requires the runner to compete in the London, Boston, Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago and the last leg for Melluish was the New York Marathon on Sunday. Completing the New York Marathon in 3 hrs 53 mins 33 s Stephen was said to be relieved and looking for his next challenge. Running with Melluish in New York was Mark Cowan from BRC who finished in 4 hrs 55 mins 59s.
Closer to home a 10 strong team from Benfleet Running Club took part in a hilly Billericay 10K in windy conditions. Despite the conditions the Benfleet team had some fatastic results in Andrew Low finishing as first male V40 category in 36:25 and promising athlete Kiera Tippett finish first under 21 female in a time of 43:24. In sixth place overall BRC team mate Lee Baynton finished just behind Low in 37:00. Benfleet’s Jack Hodges (40:03), Doug Stephens (44:40), Graham Douglass (46:05), Ian Banthorpe (46:29), Dennis Dudley (50:13), Ann Reed (55:51 PB) and Ian Caldwell (59:09) completed the showing from the Red and Whites.
